Christ the Filler

As we near the end of the twelfth month of 2025, I can see the close of the expiring year and the dawning of a new one. This season invites reflection—on high hopes and earnest expectations, on desires and disappointments, and on “all of the things,” as a dear friend of mine often says. Looking back, I see surprises, moments of celebration, and seasons where progress felt stalled.

In this reflection, I’m reminded of Paul and Timothy’s words to “God’s holy people in Philippi who belong to Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:1, NLT). In verse six, Paul declares with confidence:

“I am sure of this, that he who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:6, CSB).

As we fix our eyes on Jesus and His finished work, we are reminded that Christ is not only the Fulfiller—He is the Filler. There are moments when people feel God cannot do this one. Not this situation because it’s too hard. Not this relationship because it started wrong. Not this life because of family history, absence, or a difficult childhood. But nothing is too hard for God. He will get glory out of your story. He will raise you up and fill you with His Spirit as you hunger and thirst for righteousness.

The Law was never meant to complete us—it was meant to lead us to Christ.

1. Jesus Fulfills the Law for Us Through Faith and Love

Scripture tells us that “the law was our guardian until Christ, so that we could be justified by faith” (Galatians 3:24–26, CSB). Jesus made it clear: “I did not come to abolish the Law or the Prophets, but to fulfill them” (Matthew 5:17, CSB). Paul later confirms that “love… is the fulfillment of the law” (Romans 13:10, CSB). Through faith expressed in love, Christ fulfills what the Law required but could never complete in us.

2. Christ Fulfills the Requirement of the Law Through Love

Romans 13:8 says, “The one who loves another has fulfilled the law.” As believers, we are learning to live free from debt—not just financial debt, but the debt of obligation. Our daily grind is being transformed into a love walk. We give, serve, and respond not because we owe, but because love compels us. Love is the evidence that Christ is working in us.

3. Christ Fills All Things and Sends the Holy Spirit

Ephesians 4:10 declares that Jesus ascended “to fill all things.” He did not leave us as orphans. He promised the Holy Spirit—the Counselor—who would dwell with us and in us (John 14:15–31). Through the Spirit, Christ makes His home in us, teaches us, reminds us of truth, and fills us with peace. Where there is emptiness, He fills it. Where there is lack, He supplies it.

As we continue to feed on God’s Word, His Word comes alive in us. Purpose begins to speak. The measure we give will be measured back to us. If there has been a great deficit, God can fill it. He will finish what He started. He desires for us to experience Him as the Filler firsthand—so that we can represent Him to the world.
